The basic premise is that the anchor is linked to a specific desired state which is then applied to various situations and experiences. The purpose of anchor enhancement is to expand the anchor’s reach beyond the original primary experience, so that it will be easier to induce the desired state, regardless of the situation or circumstances. In NLP we call it “elaboration”, or “enhancement”. It is also a way to repeat anchoring without getting bored or risking weakening the anchor (when you put yourself again and again in an excited state, for example: if the experience is the same, the excitement wears off after a few runs. That can lead to a weak primary anchor). The illustration shows how Anchor Enhancement gets done. Let’s take one example and run through the process: Your desired state is “Relaxation”. You establish the anchor with a primary neutral experience (“walking the dog”, “washing dishes). You repeat the scenario a few times, to make sure the anchor is in place. You then enhance by firing the anchor in various imaginary experiences - with the same anchor and desired state - for Supportive Experience A (“riding the bus”, SE-B (“talking with my son”) and SE-C (“going to the dentist”).
