This is basically a pattern interruption combined with pacing and leading. When nervous, we all have our favorite tics and repetitive movements. This way, we expel the excess energy in our bodies when we feel an overload of distress. We can somatically counteract the nervous feelings by exaggerating the tics: “I notice you (touch, hold, grip, stroke) your (leg, sleeve, hair) when speaking. Could you exaggerate this for me for the next 30 seconds and let’s see what happens? Exaggerate even more…When you force it, the nervousness stops because the body exits the behavioral loop. "
