This is an art form, and that is why it is an essential part of master practitioner training (when done adequately). A meta question is investigating the value of a stimulus, but not in an evaluative form, but only as a direction to enhance performance. Meta question examples
“How can this be useful right now?”
How can I reach this level of X (excitement, joy, creativity, etc.) more easily and/or faster?
“What states are the most resourceful in this situation?”
“How can I reduce the chain of states from non-useful to useful?” (e.g., from feeling devalued to feeling empowered)
How can I reframe an unfair criticism so that it reflects on the blamer rather than on myself?
“How might you re-direct that anger so that you could turn it on and off at will?”
“How can I make this skill a part of my own repertoire?”
