This is a popular Milton Erickson technique, that is used to cover an embedded command. It is frequently referred to as PPPL (pace pace pace lead). However, that is the least useful approach, as the ‘lead’ part is too obvious. The formula is: Pace → Pace → Pace → Embed → Tag. For example:

Pace: “Well, I can see that your head is resting on the top of the recliner, and…”

Pace: “you may hear the subtle hum of the air conditioning, and…”

Pace: “you might even still smell the fragrance of the essential oil in that bowl on your left, and..”

Embed: “as you do, you may find yourself deeper in trance, deeper still, and…”

Tag: “it is a pleasant feeling, is it not?”
