This is a cognitive-linguistic approach to the reinforcement of positive changes during therapeutic interventions.

Step 1: Ask: “What is going better in your life since our very first session X weeks ago? #

Step 2: Listen to the answer, maintain rapport, and ask: “On a scale of 10 to 0, where 10 means that the problem that brought you to me has been sufficiently solved or your most desired outcome has been reached, and 0 is the worst moment you’ve experienced in your lifetime, where are you now? #

Step 3: Repeat the number the client says, and ask: “What does that number stand for? #

" If the client hesitates, give them time and encourage them to consider broader perspectives in terms of location and time.

Step 4: Ask, “Let me ask you this now, that you have experienced such important changes: how is it that you are already at that number? #

" - If the client seems confused, you may say, “You see, most of my clients take much longer to get there, and yet you’ve made these wonderful changes in such a short time, although you told me when we first started working together that you’re weak and have low self-esteem. You have proven the exact opposite in half the time! " We use the client’s positive perceptions to embed commands, presuppositions, and future paces in them to make further positive changes.

Step 5: Ask, “Now let me ask you this-how did you manage to remain at that number? #

" This is an important question because what the client describes next is the basis for the next plan of action in their therapy program.

Step 6: Ask, “And now the obvious question-what would one step higher look like? #

I’m not asking you to take any risks; just fantasize for a moment what it would mean-what would you see, hear, and feel if that number was X+1 instead of X? " If the client is not sure of the answer, ask: “How would you notice in real life that you had gone up 1 point?”

Step 7: Ecology check: “What difference would X+1 make for you and the important people in your life? #

Step 8: Future pace: “What do you see as the next step? #

"
