Continue the Life Transitions Tracking pattern (above) by determining which process archetype is most important in your development at this time. Before working through this exercise, try The Life Transitions Tracking pattern.
Step 1: Choose three items that represent your core. #
Pick three items, one from each of the three categories. It must represent something that you want to be and will always be. We’ll call this your core. a. Animals b. Famous historical figures c. A legendary figure d. Plants e. Natural phenomena f. Automobile h. A portion of the body h. Other
Step 2: Discuss in a small group. #
Have each member share their three symbols with the other members. Use this format: “I am like the (item) because (reason).”
Step 3: Decide on your hero archetype. #
Select from the following the hero archetype that represents the person you are becoming during this step in your personal development. a. A wise elderly man or woman b. Mother/father c. Wizard d. Queen/king e. Healer, teacher, storyteller, etc. In your group, have each member share their hero symbol in the format, “I want to be more like (symbol) because (reason).”
Step 4: Select your archetype of transformation. #
Your hero archetype presupposes an archetype of transformation. Select a symbol that represents that process archetype from the following: a. Enlightenment b. Rebirth c. Resurrection d. Metamorphosis e. Transformation f. Incremental evolution g. Transcendence h. Quantum leap i. Other symbol Have the members of your group share their symbol using this format: “The process of my next step in my evolution will be like (symbol) because (reason).”
Step 5: Create a metaphor in which, through your archetype of transformation, you become your hero archetype. #
Review the three archetypes that you have chosen. Create a metaphor that is strong on imagery, like a storyboard for a movie or a comic strip. In this metaphor, your core must transform into your chosen hero archetype through your archetype of transformation. Have your group members share their metaphoric stories.
