To influence the listener’s behavior and experience, this method employs the skillful use of pacing and leading statements linked by linking words.

Using conjunctions such as “and,” the speaker connects observable behavior to desired behavior, creating a sense of continuity and logical progression.

“As you sit there, breathing and reading this document,” for example, “you can begin to breathe more deeply and become more relaxed.” Disjunction can also be used to achieve similar results by using contrasting or negative forms of conjunctions.

Adverbial clauses or implied causatives, such as “since,” “when,” “while,” or “after,” establish a cause-and-effect relationship by implying that one event naturally follows another.

The speaker uses linkage language to bridge information gaps and guide the listener to the desired outcome, fostering effective communication and facilitating positive change.
