Modalities are the five sensory channels that we use to process information in Neuro Linguistic Programming (NLP): visual, auditory, kinesthetic, olfactory, and gustatory. Every individual has a dominant modality, or preferred method of perceiving and processing information.
Sub-modalities are the finer distinctions and qualities that influence our perception and subjective experience within each modality. They serve as the foundation for our sensory experiences, allowing us to make more detailed and specific distinctions within each modality.
Understanding sub-modalities is beneficial because it gives us the tools we need to transform our subjective experiences and alter our internal representations of the world.
We can change our perception and emotional response to certain experiences by making deliberate changes to sub-modalities.
