The Values Discovery procedure is designed to delve deeper into the client’s desires and outcomes in order to uncover their underlying values and motivations.
The therapist aims to elicit the client’s deeper emotional needs and values associated with their desired outcome by asking the question “What would that give you that you wouldn’t otherwise have?” at each stage.
This process assists the client in determining what is truly important to them and why they are pursuing specific goals.
It enables the therapist to investigate the client’s value hierarchy and identify any competing values or hidden motivations that may be influencing their decisions.
Understanding the client’s values can provide useful insights for developing effective strategies, setting meaningful goals, and aligning actions with their core values to achieve greater fulfillment and success.
