The balance between relying on oneself and seeking guidance or validation from others in decision-making and life choices is referred to as self-reliance versus external influence.

Clients who prioritize self-reliance value their own judgment and rely on their internal compass to guide them through difficult situations. They are motivated by their own motives and beliefs, and they seek independence and autonomy in their actions.

Those who lean toward external influence, on the other hand, place a greater emphasis on the opinions and input of others. They seek external validation and guidance, taking into account the perspectives and advice of others before making decisions.

While outside influences can provide valuable insights and support, it is critical to strike a balance and cultivate a healthy blend of self-reliance and openness to outside input in order to make well-informed decisions and maintain a sense of personal agency.
