Internal experiences are classified into two types: associated and dissociated. It is critical to understand the distinctions and differences between the two. When you can hear, see, and feel the mental event in the first person, you become a part of it.
You get to experience the scene as if you were there as you go through the motions. Your fantasy is being acted out or lived out. It goes without saying that the intensity of your feelings and sensations is highest during the peak of the experience.
The process of maintaining a detached perspective while participating in an imagined event is known as dissociation. You’re adopting the perspective of a bystander.
You are not actively participating in the scene; instead, you are observing it in your mind and creating a distinct and separate mental movie out of it. When you are separated from the action, the intensity of the experience naturally decreases.
Association and dissociation are both behavioral options. You can either fully immerse yourself in the mental movie playing in your head (associated) or simply observe it from a safe distance (dis-associated).
