According to the Subjective Experience Formula, our subjective experience is a combination of the event or situation we encounter and our reaction to it.

It emphasizes the realization that our interpretation, perception, and emotional response to an event all play a role in shaping our overall experience. The term “event” refers to the external circumstances, situations, or stimuli that we face in our daily lives.

It could be an actual event or something said or done by someone. These occurrences set the stage for our experiences and serve as triggers for our reactions. The term “reaction” refers to our internal reaction to the occurrence.

It includes our feelings, thoughts, beliefs, interpretations, and the meaning we give to the event. Our reactions can be positive or negative, depending on our prior experiences, values, and personal perspectives.

This reaction, in turn, shapes how we perceive and experience the event. We gain insight into the fact that our emotions, perceptions, and interpretations are not solely determined by external events by recognizing the subjective experience formula.

Rather, our internal reactions and responses have a significant impact on how we experience and interpret those events.

This understanding gives us the ability to take responsibility for our reactions, manage our emotions, and choose more empowering interpretations, ultimately shaping our overall subjective experience.
