Instructions #
The table serves as a visual representation that can aid in organizing thoughts and fostering self-reflection. Write in it the key words the client is using. Begin by explaining the purpose of the table to the client.
Let them know that it is a framework to explore different levels of their experiences, such as their environment, behavior, skills, values, beliefs, identity, vision, and more.
In the “Constraints” and “Opportunities” rows, encourage the client to identify the external factors or limitations that are currently affecting them (constraints) and the potential areas of growth or favorable circumstances they can leverage (opportunities).
Move to the “Behavior” row and ask the client to list specific behaviors they engage in that either support or hinder their well-being and progress. Encourage them to reflect on behaviors they want to enhance or change, and those that contribute positively to their lives.
In the “Resources” row, have the client identify their internal and external resources, such as personal strengths, supportive relationships, or tangible assets.
Then, in the “Strategies” row, invite them to brainstorm strategies or approaches they can employ to address challenges and utilize their resources effectively. In the “Motivation” row, ask the client to reflect on what drives and inspires them.
Explore their intrinsic and extrinsic motivations, as well as the goals or aspirations they are working towards. In the “Others” row, prompt the client to articulate their beliefs about other people.
Encourage them to reflect on any biases, assumptions, or generalizations they hold, and consider the impact of these beliefs on their relationships and interactions. Move to the “Values” row and encourage the client to identify their core values and beliefs.
Discuss how these values shape their decisions, actions, and overall well-being. Help them explore any conflicts or inconsistencies between their values and current behaviors.
In the “Identity” row, ask the client to explore their sense of self, including their roles, characteristics, and how they perceive themselves. Discuss any aspects of identity that are important to them and how these aspects influence their experiences and choices.
In the “Purpose” row, guide the client to articulate their overarching purpose or mission in life. Help them explore their passions, meaningful pursuits, and the impact they aspire to make in the world.
Finally, in the “Future” row, encourage the client to share their vision of the future. Ask them to describe their desired outcomes, goals, and aspirations. Explore how their actions and choices align with this envisioned future.
Throughout the process, actively listen to the client’s responses, provide support, validation, and offer insights when appropriate.
